What started life as one of England’s most sought after stately homes has now evolved to become one of the leading spa hotels in the country. Armathwaite Hall is a luxury hotel with a large, contemporary new spa, located near Keswick in the Lake District, overlooking the region’s only real lake, Bassenthwaite.
A popular but discreet location for people who are looking for time out from the hustle and bustle of day to day life, Armathwaite Hall has welcomed a number of VIP guests including actors, singers and even Gordon Brown and his family for their annual summer vacation.
This beautiful hotel magnificently set in the secluded splendour of 400 acres of deer park and woodland, bordered by the calming waters of Bassenthwaite Lake and framed by the dramatic Skiddaw Mountain and Lake District Fells, Armathwaite Hall is as romantic as the surrounding countryside. The hotel, which is privately owned by the resident Graves family, reflects a quality of life and old world hospitality of which the novelist, Sir Hugh Walpole wrote: “A house of perfect and irresistible charm” and this complements but contrasts with the modern spacious spa which wouldn’t be out of place on the pages of Elle Decoration.
All 42 bedrooms at Armathwaite Hall are of individual character with views towards the lake or the gardens, the Deer Park or the Courtyard. The hotel also has two restaurants, lounge areas complete with open fires, a tennis court, croquet lawn and Trotters World of Animals Wildlife Park on the estate.
At the heart of Armathwaite’s philosophy is the comfort and wellbeing of its guests and this is reflected in the range of facilities for recreation and relaxation. The luxury spa has a 16 metre infinity swimming pool, an outdoor hydrotherapy pool overlooking the parklands, a wallow pool, steam, sauna, aroma room, treatment rooms and a state-of-the-art gym and exercise studio.
